Where Virtualization and 5G Converge | Trending Network News | August 27, 2016

This week, the Trending Network News focus is mostly 5G: how differing operator timetables might impact the user experience, Verizon's work on its own 5G specification, and the importance of backhaul to 5G success. 4G Network 'Quality Wars' Come to India

As has happened elsewhere, especially in very competitive markets, Indian 4G LTE network operators are now engaged in 'quality wars,' duking it out to differentiate their offerings based on network and user experience quality rather than price. In a recent guest article onTelecomDrive, Accedian's David Dial (VP Sales, Latin America and Asia Pacific), explores this trend and the tactics likely to help operators emerge victorious.

Network Costs Pose Opportunity for Pan-Asian Financial Networks

At first glance, network optimization doesn't seem like a high-priority differentiator for global investment banks trading into and across Asia, given that network costs for these services seem 'fixed.' Yet, many banks and brokers struggle to compete in Asia because of lackluster end-user experience, noted Ian Salmon, Accedian Market Consultant - Finance, in a recent Automated Trader article. Plus, network optimization can and does have an impact on the cost of doing business.

SON Needs to Smarten Up, to Succeed

The time has come for self-optimizing networking (SON) to meet its neighbors. In fact, all the pieces of mobile networks need to start socializing—the cliques they have formed need to be broken up, and new forms of communication established to create a cohesive whole, as we move to the intelligent networks 5G will be.
