8 Steps to Conquering NFV Level 1

2016 is the year of network functions virtualization (NFV), predicts Light Reading in its new report, "NFV Coming, Ready or Not!" By that, it means this is the year all operators, even those that have been taking (or would prefer to take) a wait-and-see approach, will be compelled to start adopting the technology. In this first phase of a much longer telecom evolution, Light Reading proposes 8 steps for providers unsure how best to proceed.

Financial Markets: Timestamping Options for MiFID II Compliance

Under European Union rules (MiFID II) slated to come into force in 2018, financial services firms engaging in high frequency trading will be required to timestamp trades with 100 microsecond accuracy. While that might sound like a stretch, technology does exist to make such granular tagging possible and even feasible, noted QA Financial.

vCPE Emerges as Top NFV Deployment Use Case

Service providers view network functions virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN) as key technologies for transforming telecom network architecture to add new revenue streams (through service and revenue agility), reduce opex (through operational efficiency), and reduce capex (through use of COTS hardware rather than proprietary network equipment).

For U.S. Cable TV Operators, Opportunities Also Bring Challenges

The largest U.S. cable TV operators (among them Comcast, Time Warner, and Cablevision)
had a good year during 2015, collectively gaining 3.3 million broadband internet accounts, representing 106 percent of high speed internet service customer additions nationwide for all types of providers (including telcos). That's according to a recent IP Carrier blog post citing Leichtman Research Group findings. What accounts for this increase? What does it mean for cable operators? For telcos?

Webinar Recap: NFV and SDN Lessons from vCPE Deployments

Despite citing “software not yet carrier-grade” as a barrier to implementing SDN/NFV (in a recent ISH/Infonetics survey), operators are still moving ahead with adopting this technology—and influencing its development. That observation on the part of Michael Howard, Senior Research Director, Carrier Networks, IHS, kicked off a webinar (“Carrier NFV and SDN Lessons from Virtual CPE Deployments”) this Tuesday, setting the tone for an informative and lively discussion about how telecom operators are deploying virtualization technology.

Gartner Insight: What Are Global Network Service Providers Planning?

Driven by the availability of software-defined networking (SDN) technology, and enterprise adoption of cloud IT services, global enterprise networks are entering a time of rapid evolution. When choosing network providers, companies with a global footprint are challenged to ensure they get the coverage and features they need in all locations, and that their roadmaps align with those of increasingly differentiated providers.
