For many years, closed architecture and service delivery models have held back enterprise and residential communications service innovation. Network functions virtualization (NFV) and virtualized customer premises equipment (vCPE) is changing all that: leveraging open compute platforms and distributed software (cloud or customer premises) can transform the landscape in a single step.
Network operators and enterprise providers alike are very interested in vCPE because it addresses a range of technical and business drivers that the legacy CPE model can’t accommodate.
