Vertical Systems Group recently published its mid-2015 U.S. Carrier Ethernet LEADERBOARD results, ranking the top players in this space, based on retail port share: AT&T, Level 3, CenturyLink, Time Warner Cable, Comcast, XO, and Cox.
Port shares for the report are calculated based on both enterprise installations and survey input from Ethernet providers. To make the LEADERBOARD ranking, a provider has to pass the threshold of four percent of billable port installations.
Vertical Systems reported that the U.S. Ethernet market grew significantly during the first half of 2015, driven by three main factors:
- Massive migration from TDM to Ethernet services
- Robust demand for higher speed Ethernet private lines
- Rising requirements for connectivity to public and private clouds
Those factors, especially the last one, are consistent with what Accedian has observed about the Ethernet market during 2015. (See our Enterprise to Data Center Connectivity white paper for an in-depth look at 'cloud brokerage' and its implications.)
Incidentally, Accedian currently supplies solutions to four of the top six providers that made the LEADERBOARD ranking. Public and private cloud connectivity depends on robust but efficient network performance monitoring and assurance.
