Insight: Focus on Telecom M&A

You know what they say: the more things change, the more things stay the same. That certainly seems true when it comes to mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the telecom space. Charter's recently sealed deal (pending regulatory approval) to purchase Time Warner Cable for $56 billion in cash and stocks is just the latest big M&A to generate a lot of telecom industry discussion and speculation.

Insight: It's a Car, It's a Drone, It's... IoT

When I learned to drive a car, my dad told me there are only two rules to being a safe, driver: "Don't hit anybody, and don't let anybody hit you." According to a recent RCRWireless report on results from the Google self-driving car program, it seems that today's prototype autonomous cars have mastered the first rule, and are closing in on 100% application of the second.

Insight: The Technology of IoT

Is machine-to-machine technology (M2M) ready for prime time? That's a question now being pondered by network operators, hardware and software vendors, and industry analysts, among others, RCRWireless noted. The answer depends somewhat on the M2M applications you're considering: smart homes, smart cities, connected cars, retail, etc.

Insight: How Different Applications Affect Mobile Networks

The types of performance leap envisioned for 5G requires rethinking both how networks are designed, and how they're monitored to assure QoS and QoE. Why? Because, while the most-talked-about strain on mobile networks is the sheer volume of data, different types of applications have other impacts as well.

SDxCentral Featured Article: Who's Steering Your SDN Network?

In the past, operators had full visibility into, and therefore control over, their networks. Unfortunately, that's changed with the rapid adoption of Software Defined Networks (SDN). This new technology densifies networks and makes it possible to carry increasing amounts of traffic over increasing numbers of virtual networks--often at the cost of a ubiquitous, real-time network state view.
